Me Made May, roudup

Image
So I'm like a whole freaking week late on posting the final Me Made May roundup.  Well . . . I was in Kentucky on work, and I won't apologize for having a beer after work and usually being too tired to stay up past 10:30.  Yes, lame.  Yes, true.  Yes, there were an hour of student and work emails too . . . nearly every night. But, for your viewing pleasure: Wednesday, a day of browns. An Amy Butler Barcelona, my new boat shows, a now toooo large cardi, and my insomnia bag (AKA Multi Tasker Tote from Anna Maria Horner). Of course,  I was still in NYC here . . . It was chilly, hence the cardi.  Guess where the cardi is now? In the growing Goodwill bin. Thursday . . . the day to finish packing what wasn't done the day before, remember the tablet and Advil (the sunscreen for kids who go to summer camp for nerds), and try to sleep. {There's no photo as my phone shit the bed a day or so later, and . . . this one isn't on my Google+ backup (meanin...

Thurlow Love

Image
For starters, I was going to name this post porn shorts, but I doubted some of the people who link to me would appreciate that and I didn't want to get hit with all the internet creepers. Yet, using porn in this post will...oh nevermind. You are welcome for not having porn shorts show on your blogs.  Creepers, keep your perv to yourself. Thanks. Now, onto to the love of my summer.  The thurlow shorts from Sewaholic Patterns.   Lauren, at Lladybird , has done a gazillion versions, and just as she's in her honeymoon phase with them so am I. They are lovely, comfy, and...well, I have a story for you. In high school, just when fast fashion and stores like The Limited and The Gap took over, yet were still expensive to a kid like me, I got to get a bunch of clothes one summer. I got a pair of light denim (it was the 90s, do not judge), that had cuffs, were oh so comfy, and I supported those bad boys through half of grad school. Yea, I had them for like ten years. They were pe...

Week Four, or a whole lota pics for you to drool over.

So I'm a few days late with Me Made May . . . May has FIVE weeks . . . ugh.   To make it up, here's a pic of the cupcake pin cushion I drafted a few years back (it fits inside a bobbin carousal, by the way) and the mini tomato I did up today . . . scraps of course.  Today's has steel wool to keep the pins happy.  Cuteness makes everyone smile.   Without further ado: Saturday: Well . . . you saw part of it here , but there was more. There's an odd looking photo of me--not at the market, but odd in everything else--wearing a Colette Ginger, version three on the bias in Amy Butler Lark.  A thrifted Seattle Blues jacket, a Stella and Dot scarf, and a crappy shirt that I sent to the Goodwill bin.  Birks too boot.  Oh, my grey and purple Cosmo is a staple of Farmer's Market shopping as it holds an unbelievable amount of goods, books, and everything else. That jacket . . . when I was small and still in Seattle all the kids had that b...

The Anniversary Dress

Image
Last year on May 18th I wore this: Yes, I made it.  Yes, I loved it.  Yes, I lost my mind with all that hand beading.  There's a bit more on it here . Well, for our anniversary I figured it was only fitting to make a dress . . . ya know, since it is Me Made May and I did  make my own wedding gown.  So, without further ado, I took to making Vogue V8727.  Version B, to be precise.  The fabric was 15.99 a yard, making this dress pretty pricey.  I went into JoAnn's to get thread and elastic, and lost my mind enough to buy this stuff.  Well,  it is a nice dress, with a sweet fit now that I altered it.   I got Mr. Fairytale to take a picture from the stoop, and I promptly posted it.  I'm on the fence a bit with the dress. . . why, so many asked from otherwise rave reviews.  Well, I think it is that I'm not used to wearing such a full skirt and that I am a little over the dress.  I made a test bodice, ...

Me Made May 2013: Week Three

Image
You're weekly round up for May . . . Saturday : Party at Erika and Bur's in CT, for which being a NYer and jaunting to CT for the weekend makes us sound very bourgeois. Cabo Halter in Amy Butler fabric with my wearable muslin Thurlows.  Yea, buddy.  On the real wear pair, this week, I'm going to down a size (these are cut on the 12) and I'll take off a 1/4 inch on the crotch.  Other than that, and shortening them (pre-cut) by three inches--I be short--they are a great pair of trousers.  I detest this cheap denim fabric, hence the use for a muslin, but it worked for what I wanted.  Though, I used a third generation zipper that has now broken . . . I tested, I love, I hate this fabric.  Job done.  I'm up in the air if I'll fix the zipper to wear them a couple of times and send to Goodwill. hmmm. Check that out: someone else's kitchen!  And, a friend took this.  Mr. Fairytale got the night off of photo shooting. Sunday ,...
