Day One.

Image
1 May . . . the day in the sewing world, online voyeurism enclave, of the start of Me Made.  In that regard, I guess I've been doing Me Made since 2013 now.  That being said, I've made no quiet voice about the disdain of selfies . . . and the body image notations one makes during the 30 days of Me Made. Though, in 2013 I was nearing a year of being married, and what most now know is that my marriage was already on a very painful death.  That actually started six weeks after I do.  I'm not going into that here, but let's just say I stayed and held on for as long as I did from shame, status quo, and fear.  None of them are good reasons to stay . . . Though, looking back on the pictures the memories come back, in floods and spoils, about the incredible amount of begging to get him to take a photo, to partially engage in something I do (which, being a writer and with someone who doesn't believe in it  . . . ), and the skill changes. There was clear escapism ...

Things I forgot to tell you . . .

As spring has been slow to rise, life has not been slow on the upswing as we find ourselves saying closer to middle age than not.  Yea . . . I look around, when in the hell did I hit middle aged? Somewhere between 1992 and now I would presume.  Closer to now, but the exact date . . . probably when I started making millennial jokes (some deserving, some just me getting on mid life snark).  Anywho, while I haven’t posted here in a month I have been appearing around the web.   Yes, another moment when I look around and say “how in the hell did that happen?” Let’s see, my main press did an author interview with me.   In it I reveal the secrets of life, love, and happiness.  Okay, well if you’ve either met me or read on here you already know that I long eschewed faith in long term love relationships . . . but, the sides of me that people like certainly appear.  The editors, intern, and such all enjoyed it very much.  Enjoy, if you will....

'90s Flower Child

I finally get it man.  I mean, like I finally get it.  You know, that signature style and look that marks us, shapes us, makes us happy every day . . . Yup.  Okay, so I've had it for awhile, but it took me some trials to realize that some areas of life are past the point of experimentation.   Like jeans and tees, with pearls and boots . . . blazers and more boots.  We know.  Right? #always. First up, I'm dead serious on not making shit to just make it anymore.  Even more serious on eschewing cheap fabrics, tester fabrics, and trying it to see what the fuss is all about.  Yea, no.  Why? When I moved two months ago let us just note that there was a small semi truck of makes that were cast aside from either being  enormously too big as my body has altered in the past couple of years, I never liked, or--my personal favorite here--were in fabrics that I was clearly drunk, out of my mind, or just deaf, dumb, and blind when I purchas...

Week Four . . . C'est la vie and Mable and Moneta

Image
In the final days of Me Made and, like near everyone else, I'm tired of the selfies.  So very tired.  I plug on though.  Surprisingly, I've made a considerable amount this month (see below), and . . . aside from being in a prolonged fight with the USPS and Girl Charlee over the location of my fabric and who is now responsible, I've had a good month on writing and sewing.  Need to get more writing done . . . but, my stress levels are calming down.  Perhaps because I have decided to take an hour and read a damned book everyday.  Perhaps.  Little things. Saturday: Another Archer . . . do not judge.  Archer number nine, this is.  I mean, look at that ribbon trim (with a hint of floral) and those glass buttons.  Oh yea, picking up a case of beer I lost a button.  Ha ha. RTW jeans, evil eye sandal from Bodrum, and the tiniest Coach I own.  Seriously, how is that even a purse? Sunday . . . Purple plaid thurlows...

A Flowery Anna and Some Rambles

Image
I believe it was last summer that By Hand London caught my eye . . . maybe last spring.  What I do know is that the Anna came out last summer, and in BHL fashion it did not disappoint.  As much as I love my Charlotte's (which more will be made next fall, after  hopefully long and gloriously hot summer some wool will come out for a smaller grey and one in black . . . yes, my grey one will be on ESTY in about three weeks as after this winter with weight dilemmas and body image galore it's too loose in the waist--if you can believe that!), I might love this bad boy more  . . .Well, the dress not the color.  Anyway . . .  I actually made her Easter Weekend, took less than an afternoon.  I see her as a quickish make, with some nice potential to alter her look.  ;) Pattern calls for one slit, which you will want on the long version . . . I went all ballsy and did two.  FYI, for folks of a normal height the slits are...
