Passport Stamps on my Minoru

Image
We already know life has kicked me more than once lately . . .But, in short, I made my Minoru before I left for Ecuador. And, to my chagrin, I'm finally  getting it on here.  Good grief!  But, before the gushing of my favorite coat--that I've gotten compliments from my Momma and across the globe about, the first two days of Me Made need a super quick round up.   Day One Some quasi shameful RTW running capris, a Deer and Doe (actually my muslin Plantain ), a do rag with scraps from a bag I made and wore out, and you can't see them but knickers.  I graded at home, all day, so this was spiffy.  I did blather, for a moment, the last entry here about knickers.  Day Two My one hour convert (a pair of jeans into a skirt) and a renfrew.  The Renfrew is a perfect wear to lounge, and here I just got back from a long overdue massage and mani/pedi.  Hence, she's a little stretched.  And now . . . onto my coat. I had pl...

A Penny for your Pinafore

So, here it is Women's History Month and . . . well, you should have expected something from me.  We all know I have a fond affection for Gloria Steinem , as I've read her works, listened to her speeches, and one of my first academic publications was a summation of her.  As my friend T and I say, a lot of our dress and style invokes her.  Though, I've still got a Bohemian streak or two.   Seriously, Women's History Month or not . . . Women's Lib and the progression of Women's Rights has always been a central spot of my life, writing, and work.  Even in 2014 women are devalued, underpaid, and pared off in ways that men are not.  We are treated in ways that men would never be.  I, with a PhD and articles and books, am still asked to hold fucking coats.  Ions ago, while working as a Girl Friday for a brick company, the president never asked me to get his afternoon soda.  Why? He was terrified, after one encounter with me, that I'd shake tha...

A festival of hoodies

Image
So, yea, I've been sewing a lot of knits lately.  A) I heart the quick ease they bring (I mean talk about self gratification) and B) one of us is in need of basics.  As a rule, I do my damndest to keep my fabric on two shelves of a bookshelf and to keep the yardage bought to what I need.  Well, with with knits I like to see scraps pile up (as I'm making knickers) and I'm known to get creative with sculpting tees and what not.   On that note, hoodies abound with a generational passing glee.  Seriously, young and old wear them.  Before my Gram passed in 2000 she wore mine from time to time.  I kid you not.  If she was alive now she'd certainly have some of these as she liked the open fronts the best.  So, in that regard when you think about fashion and its evolution one that stands firm my generation did was bringing knits into a sense of everyday glory.  Yea, Coco Chanel brought jersey in for women's daily wear.  But, knits have...
