A festival of hoodies

So, yea, I've been sewing a lot of knits lately.  A) I heart the quick ease they bring (I mean talk about self gratification) and B) one of us is in need of basics.  As a rule, I do my damndest to keep my fabric on two shelves of a bookshelf and to keep the yardage bought to what I need.  Well, with with knits I like to see scraps pile up (as I'm making knickers) and I'm known to get creative with sculpting tees and what not.   On that note, hoodies abound with a generational passing glee.  Seriously, young and old wear them.  Before my Gram passed in 2000 she wore mine from time to time.  I kid you not.  If she was alive now she'd certainly have some of these as she liked the open fronts the best.  So, in that regard when you think about fashion and its evolution one that stands firm my generation did was bringing knits into a sense of everyday glory.  Yea, Coco Chanel brought jersey in for women's daily wear.  But, knits have...

Hoodies, Fall, and Confines of the Body

Hoodies and Fall go hand in hand.  Well, hell, hoodies tend to be a good wardrobe staple anyway you shake it.  So, I set out to make my new favorite one . . . the Sol Hoodie by Jamie Christina.  To make it I used some grey ponte knit that I got from Mood (and yes, I paid for it), some tissue knit lavender/pinkish for the hood lining, a metal zipper (I think plastic ones on hoodies are A) pointless, as they break quicker than pigs eatting slop and B) look cheap (sorry, not sorry).  I had some ribbon trim my Dad bought me on our excursion to Mood in August, and I used that.  Yea, when I got it I told him that I wasn't 100 percent sure what I was going to do with it.  Yea, Dude, I always knew.  I just wasn't going to tell him that I was planning to use 15 dollar a yard trim for a hoodie.  Ha.   I can't tell you how many times I've worn it since finishing it . . . two dozen maybe? And it's only been done a week.   After runnin...

Planning for Seams and Seams for Planning

Aside from the numerous other things I have going on in my life, and all of the writing I do professionally and for shits and giggles, I sew.  A lot.  As any of you know that read this blog. . . duh.  Well anywho, a slew of people have been messaging asking me how in the hell I can keep up the pace, make so much, and well . . . be on target for what I want to wear.  So, here's my secret: a list.  A detailed list. I should note my sister sent me the leather notebook for my Birthday.  I think it came in handy, as a list and repository for my sewing and other disasters.   Of course, I use it for detailed notes on patterns that I later blather to you about.   The swatch is on the back of that page . . . unlike below where there was enough room to put in on the front of the page.  Sometimes I stitch the swatches into the book.  Just depends on what hour of the day I finish something and how lazy I am.   See, a...
