Week Four . . . C'est la vie and Mable and Moneta

In the final days of Me Made and, like near everyone else, I'm tired of the selfies.  So very tired.  I plug on though.  Surprisingly, I've made a considerable amount this month (see below), and . . . aside from being in a prolonged fight with the USPS and Girl Charlee over the location of my fabric and who is now responsible, I've had a good month on writing and sewing.  Need to get more writing done . . . but, my stress levels are calming down.  Perhaps because I have decided to take an hour and read a damned book everyday.  Perhaps.  Little things.

Saturday:

Another Archer . . . do not judge.  Archer number nine, this is.  I mean, look at that ribbon trim (with a hint of floral) and those glass buttons.  Oh yea, picking up a case of beer I lost a button.  Ha ha.

RTW jeans, evil eye sandal from Bodrum, and the tiniest Coach I own.  Seriously, how is that even a purse?

Sunday . . .

Purple plaid thurlows, from last summer (FYI, how do you know you wear something a lot? When after less than a year you reseam the crotch.  Yea, got windy that's all.).  My Sloppy Jospehine, that fits, a RTW cami underneath, Muttly, and the balcony.

I graded, wrote a little (never enough), ran, and made these:

Archer no 10 and Sorbetto no. three.

Monday, Memorial Day

Tilly and the Buttons Miette sans ties or pockets, and Archer no. eight . . . the white button down with white accent stitching.  And this entire outfit is brought to you by unicorns.  That's my gram's scarf on my bag.  Was planning on going 70s as we wandered street festivals in the city, but it was too toasty of a day for that.  Bag style it was.

Last year I made one of these in navy polka too, though I cut it off by four inches . . . making in scandalously too short.  This year, using last year's measurements, I need to move the button and snap IN an inch.  Yea, I finished it and didn't try her on until Monday.  Ha.  Still fits, just needs to come in.  So, still a win, win.

Tuesday:

The Staple Dress in an Anna Maria Horner rayon.  I'm told I'm "Jane who wears a Cheetah" here.  Ha ha.

Sometimes simple is good.  This bad boy goes well with my evil eye long necklace, double looped (you can barely see it here), and that belt is a Mod Cloth find.

Muttly has on her kerchief I made her to match Archer no. 10.

Oh, made these from Tilly's book Love at First Stitch:

I bought the book for pattern ideas, and . . . it's a cute and fun read.  Beginners will love it, especially with the sewing machine set up.  Though, the patterns are printed on both sides of the paper.  That I do not like.

These pants, from Amy Butler fabric my sister sent for Christmas, are now my favorite sleep pants pattern.  I shortened it by three inches, added buttons holes, used ribbon to tie it, and added decorative stitching.

Oh, filled up my notebook . . . new one has begun.  ;)

Wednesday:

A Deer and Doe Plantain in the same lightweight wool knit that I made a Briar in . . . wore that Briar week one here.  RTW jeans.  Jet jewelry from Turkey and my Egyptian name necklace are on my neck.

Took a friend to Mood, to fabric shop for her project.  Played with her 10 month old too.  Good day.

Thursday:

Archer no. 10.  Muttly got a kerchief from scraps.  And, yes, if you look close my fab pillows are in a velour that match my rayon dress.

Friday:

Hello Moneta.

Okay, so I had no real intention of making this one this week.  I got the patterns when I pre-ordered the Colette Knit Book, and . . . I made my first Coco (that has been worn more times that I can count since I made her two or so months ago) from this rayon vicose (from Mood, of course), and I intended to make a Briar (creative, I know).  Well, Colette announced her Knitcation contest, and well . . . I decided to sew this one up.  The lining on the bodice is scrap from a cream Renfrew this winter, and it is pieced in the back.  What? We all do it.  Other than not inserting the collar, I made it to the XL size, but sewn to a L.  Why? I was lazy and tried to sew the sides without basting.  Did that on the serger, then trimmed off the seam and resewed with my bad ass walking foot and then serged.  What? This is another thing all sewists have done.  If we don't always admit it.

The pattern takes about two hours to complete, that's with stripe matching, and . . . I can't get over how much I really like this bad boy.  The rayon also helps.  Giving it a nice drape.  Of course those black and white stripes, like a the French girls, with the red belt go a long way in my book too.  Now I just need to find some soft leather flats . . . and Converse sneaks.  Grey, I prefer.  I can't seam to get a pair in my size this year.  :(

Back to at hand: Of course, since I saw the contest I decided to use the Mable pattern too.  Eh . . . when I got this pattern I was let down.  Why? It's a skirt I can do on my own, and I do make from time to time on my own.  So . . . put off, yes, but since I've got friends dying to learn to sew I had thought about keeping it for one of them.  Well, then knitcation happened.

So Moneta one and Mabel one arrived.

On the Mabel, it is actually to pattern except the waistband.  I put that in by serging all three layers and omitting the stitch in the ditch concept.  Ah, I cute and sewed it to the largest/longest size.  Why? I wanted a couple extra inches, and it works just fine this way.  This one is less than an hour . . .and, here I got brave and used the overlock on my serger.  So, the damned thing worked beautifully for the hem here.  Then I went to hem my Moneta and my Coco dress (yes, I made three things last night).  Mother fuck me.  I ended up finishing my dresses with a single stretch needle (my double broke), and  . . . four hours later I still don't know what I was threading incorrectly.  Eh, I'll play some more this summer and figure it out.  In the meantime, two stretch twin needles came in today (of course!).

FYI, I'm not posting it now, as you'll see it sometime soon.  I mean, it looks like a tube skirt with stripes.

I'm going to Prince Edward Island in August for a conference, and while this is not a vacation we will pretend.  As with most conferences I get a day or so to wander (of course, in the morning and at night I'm online grading, emailing, making sure I stay up to date with work), so . . . I'm making a trousseau--so to speak--for PEI and knitcation.  Yes, yes.  I mean, think about it, this Moneta screams Anne of Green Gables (as she was based there).  I'm in higher ed, and I scramble and sacrifice much for what I do.  Hence, conferences are the closet I've ever gotten to a vacation.

Later this month I'll post all seven of the outfits for knitcation, as they need to be up by the 30th.  And now I'm off to Kentucky for a week with The College Board.

I'll post the final, and perhaps best day, of Me Made later this week.
