Why, yes Darling, it is an Oscar de la Renta.
So, I don't know, like a month ago now I cut into some of my birthday silk . . . some Oscar de la Renta from Mood. Oooh la la la. Oh, yes . . . yes I did. There's something about a fancy name and silk that just make you feel better, no matter how shitty the day. I recommend that everyone have at least one such outfit. Wear when work is looking like hell in a hand basket. You will see.
With it, I made the lovely Darling Ranges Dress altered a bit . . . in short, I just added a full size all around. An even size . . . so, in theory I made myself the dreaded XL size. Oh well, bite me. I like the way my ass looks in this silk. Well, not entirely but enough.
Yes that's a whiskey bottle made lamp there. Jealous, should be?
Sidey side.
Closer up, and from this angle it resembles an expensive sack. It is not, I assure you. Look on. This is where I should not that I upped a size to, well, make it loose and comfy. Why? I wanted to be able to wear it on campus, with a cardi or at night with a belt. My hands were partly in the pockets here.
What I looked like, with my cardi I never blogged about and probably never will. See my Ravelry notes if you are intrigued.
A veiw from the mirror, and yes those are fleece lined tights. It was snowy that day!
My first pair of socks, and I'm even wearing them now, were under the boots. A second pair is half done . . . not done because I stopped to make my Momma's present. So, I'll make my other sock tomorrow . . . literally.
A view from my kitchen . . . and some handstitch love. See those buttons? Free to me. Tanfer's Mom's stash. Yup. Again. I have no shame. So, in short, one spool of thread for about five bucks and the pattern . . . I think my Oscar de la Renta number two was about 25 bones. Booyea!
Oh, wait . . .you want the night out version I bet? A cinch belt is in there.
That wrap . . . I bought the yarn on my last trip to Istanbul, in 2008, and I made it thereafter as I saw a romantic affair fizzle before it fruited and a job come and go (and come again later that I smartly turned down, as well dubious things occurred). So, it is a fond piece that I love. I often swarth it around my neck, but with my frame I have to be careful as I'll go from bohemian cool to dumpy, lumpy in a minute. Wrapped here, on a crisp night shortly before Christmas in a freak winter warm spell, it looks lovely.
And yes, that was snapped at near 3 am after a lovely evening with the dress seeing more than a few compliments. Verdict, I'll make another this spring, without the size up.
And . . . it was the last piece made pre serger, so zig-zagged edges for her. But, still lovely! No pics because, well, there are a few here and the upload is being douchy.
And, just in case you missed it, it did look like Christmas around here . . .
Astoria Park, ain't she grand?
On that note, next up is the gifts I spent some time making . . . and plans for next year. Have a Merry Christmas folks.
