Cords and Mixed Reviews

Corduroy fabric and fall go hand-in-hand in my mind . . . kinda like pickles and peanut butter or peanuts in your coke.  Yea, it is a preference thing.  Some people will run from cord fabric, like it is Satan sitting at the dinner table.  Me . . . it is one of those fabrics that I like for a semi casual look while still looking better than a kid dressed up in Mom's clothes.  Okay, so you are probably over my analogies.  Anywho . . . I made a Colette Beignet.  And today you have a mixed review, of sorts.

Let's walk through the picks.  You'll see . . .

I actually made this nearly a month ago, and wore it on a semi chilly day.  Then it got hot again  . . .It's finally cord weather again this week (which yea, I'm not in cords . . . I'm in a hounds-tooth wool pencil that is dreamy.  I think I'll blog that next.  Just for the hounds-tooth porn.)

Yes, that's Muttly (really known as Ripple) mugging me, and that's my Archer no. 1 (or white button down) along for the sport.

As you can see, wrinkles from a long, multi hour and task day.

The rear.  Rah rah, or blah blah.

A gif for your viewing pleasure.  I rock, I know.

Front views from the morning.  Pre-wrinkles.

Now, the nitty gritty . . .

The pockets . . . I had a fat quarter of pirate booty.  Ain't she nifty? No, I have no idea how I procured it.

Finished skirt.

Buttonhole porn.  Yes, you are welcome.  Seriously, just look at that shit.  Sublimely awesome.

(The color here . . . an Instagram filter made it pinky, and nighttime kitchen light).

The final amount of that purple lining.

Branded and lace hem lining . . . why? I thought the style of the skirt called for it.  And . . . I kinda like it.

Notice I used some hot pink thread to sew the lining.  Why? The skirt is a retro style, but a basic design.  Basics need some party on the inside.

The construction of this bad boy is pretty straightforward  with a facing for the waist and button bands.  There's a tad bit of handstitching, as the curves around the buttonholes border top needs hand love, but  . . . overall it was fairly simple to put together, and the pattern labels it intermediate.  I would say that is about right, but on that same note I'd say that if you've made any other pattern by Colette you would be fine biting into this one.

As for the downside, on Instagram Sownbrooklyn made a comment that she has one buried.  She called hers a fail . . . Mine . . . hmmm.  It works better with a fitted shirt, like a knit.  I actually made a Briar with a cowl neck just for this skirt.  And boots . . . boots really make this one.  The waist is fitted, as in when you place the button holes you need to try it on before making them.  The rest of the skirt has a looser fit.  So, that is something I'm not used to (as you saw in my pencil blather).  It certainly has a 1970s feel, especially with the cord I used.

I won't wear it with a button down again . . . a knit though, certainly.  A cardi? No.

Verdict: wear with a knit top, knee boot.  The looser design makes it a casual wear, good for markets and breezy fall days.  Though, I really do think another wear or two will decide if she is a keeper or nor.  I like the retro appeal . . .

Cord is always a winner in my opinion! Love all the little special touches you've done, and sounds like you had fun with them. Hope it turns out to be a keeper for you.

Thanks. I was hoping to have worn it again before commenting . . . but I wore my houndstoothy porn more. Ha!
