A festival of hoodies

So, yea, I've been sewing a lot of knits lately.  A) I heart the quick ease they bring (I mean talk about self gratification) and B) one of us is in need of basics.  As a rule, I do my damndest to keep my fabric on two shelves of a bookshelf and to keep the yardage bought to what I need.  Well, with with knits I like to see scraps pile up (as I'm making knickers) and I'm known to get creative with sculpting tees and what not.   On that note, hoodies abound with a generational passing glee.  Seriously, young and old wear them.  Before my Gram passed in 2000 she wore mine from time to time.  I kid you not.  If she was alive now she'd certainly have some of these as she liked the open fronts the best.  So, in that regard when you think about fashion and its evolution one that stands firm my generation did was bringing knits into a sense of everyday glory.  Yea, Coco Chanel brought jersey in for women's daily wear.  But, knits have...

A Wooly Valentine

Well, to be honest, this post was intended for Friday.  But . . . old man winter decided to make a crappy weather day, and then Saturday wasn't any better, and finally on Sunday when the Dude was headed to get fried chicken (his Sunday afternoon go-to, must have, southern genes in the big city can't get rid of fix)I took the few hours of sunshine to capture some wooly, plaid, flannel glory.  Yup.  I made him a coat.  Not only did I made him a coat, I forced (yes, forced) him to pick the color of wool and the color of flannel.  Not to worry, I gave him four options (too many options and things get hairy).  So, the Dude got a coat for Valentine's.  It has been a brutal winter after all.  I mean, so at least I know it's practical.  And, well, considering he wears it without thinking . . . I think I win. What? A wool coat isn't very romantic you say? Well, as he said, "You made it! That makes anything romantic." Well, let's start from the ins...

White Shroud

Oh sweet baby Jesus I've been busy . . . especially since I haven't posted in two weeks.  So without further ado, here's a few things across the way these days. At the beginning of January I ventured to the depths of AHA hell, or some such, as post (once I was back home) I got crafty in the house.  These fabulously tacky pillows are nothing but pure awesome.  Some Anna Maria Horner velour, some fringe from the shop by the Ditmars Ave stop, two random zippers, and making up shit as I went along gave me this.  One side is leopard, one the dots. Up.  Don't lie, you know you want some.  They are that awesome. There was a few runs through the park.  Sweet baby it's been cold. Of course, there were also several days of frozen water ways.   Yea, it says something about frozen rivers . . . in the heat of the city too.   Though, on instagram folks got the see the Extreme Plaid Matching: Weekend Edition.  ...
